Constancy of Preparatory Postural Adjustments for Reaching to Virtual Targets across Different Postural Configurations

چکیده

Postural and movement components must be coordinated without significant disturbance to balance when reaching from a standing position. Traditional theories propose that muscle activity prior onset create the mechanics counteract internal torques generated by future limb movement, reducing possible instability via centre of mass (CoM) displacement. However, during goal-directed reach movements executed on fixed base support (BoS), preparatory postural adjustments (or pPAs) promote CoM within BoS. Considering this dichotomy, current study investigated if pPAs constitute part whole-body strategy is tied efficient execution rather than constraints balance. We reasoned were primarily control, they would modulate as function perceived instability. Alternatively, dynamics necessary for initiation, remain unchanged, with feedback-based changes being sufficient retain following volitional arm movement. Participants beyond-arm in four different configurations altered quality Quantification these stability did not drastically alter tuning or timing despite modifications trajectories complete In contrast traditional views, always tuned maintenance even calculation upcoming but may reflect requirement voluntary towards pre-defined location.

Preparatory postural adjustments in parkinsonian patients with postural instability.

BACKGROUND Postural instability is a common problem in patients with Parkinson's disease. This paper reports results of a study undertaken to investigate some of the possible mechanisms responsible for this instability. METHODS Preparatory postural adjustments associated with a lateral leg raising task were studied in five parkinsonian patients and four age-matched controls. Recordings includ...

Reaching to multiple targets when standing: the spatial organization of feedforward postural adjustments.

We examined the spatial organization of feedforward postural adjustments produced prior to and during voluntary arm reaching movements executed while standing. We sought to investigate whether the activity of postural muscles before and during reaching was directionally tuned and whether a strategy of horizontal force constraint could be observed. To this end, eight human subjects executed self...

Anticipatory postural adjustments in conditions of postural instability.

OBJECTIVES The purpose of this study was to investigate anticipatory postural adjustments (APAs) in standing subjects who performed a standard motor action triggering a standard postural perturbation (releasing a 2.2 kg load from extended arms) in conditions of different stability requirements. METHODS The degree of stability was varied either by balancing on special boards with long and narr...

Two aspects of feedforward postural control: anticipatory postural adjustments and anticipatory synergy adjustments.

We used the framework of the uncontrolled manifold hypothesis to explore the relations between anticipatory synergy adjustments (ASAs) and anticipatory postural adjustments (APAs) during feedforward control of vertical posture. ASAs represent a drop in the index of a multimuscle-mode synergy stabilizing the coordinate of the center of pressure in preparation to an action. ASAs reflect early cha...

A motor cortical contribution to the anticipatory postural adjustments that precede reaching in the cat.

We tested the hypothesis that pyramidal tract neurons (PTNs) in the motor cortex contribute to the anticipatory postural adjustments (APAs) that precede the onset of a reach in the standing cat. We recorded the discharge activity of 151 PTNs in area 4 of the pericruciate cortex during reaches of both the contralateral and the ipsilateral limbs in an instructed delay task. A total of 70/151 PTNs...
